<div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
System; Nikkishina, The Citadel. Sec status 0.4</div>
<div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
<br /></div>
<div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
During a low sec roams in a T1 cruiser, an Arbitrator again. This time armour tanked (still my favourite tank on the Arbi;).</div>
<div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
<br /></div>
<div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
So I end up in Nikkishina , a 2 gate system and I find myself stuck in the system because I know a fleet of drakes just followed me in and they just left system thu the gate that was on my route as well. Not a great idea to follow them to quickly so I decide to looter in the system.</div>
<div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
<br /></div>
<div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
Then 2 Tarani show up on scan.. At the time I wasn't sure how my arbitrator would perform against them and I kinda expected them to be part of a larger fleet sitting on one of the gate in the adjacent systems. </div>
<div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
<br /></div>
<div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
Unsure of what to do but bored I warp to one of the gates at 70km. I don't want to be close to the gate like 10-20km and risk other to jump in and catch me and I really just want to have a look and see whats going on. The Tarani seem to be warping from gate to gate. </div>
<div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
<br /></div>
<div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
Pretty soon both arrive and land at 0m from the gate. I just sit there and do nothing. Nothing will happen at the gate for sure as none of us can tank the senrty guns. They stick around to my surprise and I half expect local to spike as their fleet jumps in. But that doesn't happen and 1 of theTaranis pilots offer a challenge: 2 v 1? I think why the hell not. I type PLV in local and warp to planet 5. </div>
<div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
<br /></div>
<div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
I am still suspicious of a trap and keep scanning very few seconds for other ships.. but nothing happens and after a few minutes the Tarani land on grid about 40-50km from me. By that time I have aligned to the sun and launched my light drones. I lock em both up and one of them starts to approach. I remind myself not to make the mistake to let my drones attack to fast because they will shoreley want to kill them first and take away my main DPS. I want them to come close before I set my drones on them. They need to be scrammed and them I want to neut them to hell :) and then there ships will dei . Simple as that. ;)</div>
<div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
<br /></div>
<div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
<br /></div>
<div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
This plan works pretty well. After some hesitation they do approach and I get the chance to do as I planned and it workd pretty well. They do fly pretty smart I must say as one comes in after the other like fighters and when one takes damage from my drone he flies away with my drones chasing and lets his buddy apply damage while I am distracted. Very cool and well done.</div>
<div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
<br /></div>
<div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
It doesn't work out for them though and I manage to scram , neut one of them and I hit approach to keep him close and make sure he dies. His ship does blow up but then a Stabber warps in and lands right on top of me. </div>
<div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
<br /></div>
<div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
I make a few mistakes from then on. First of all I keep focussing on the 2nd Taranis who is flying away evading my drones. he is in stucture by that time and I hope to down him, I guess but in hind site I really should have focused on the stabber who was a much bigger threat.</div>
<div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
<br /></div>
<div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
Besides that I forget to turn on my medium repper and only get reminded that I need to do that when the alarm sounds that I am in low armour. Ouch.. by that time I realize the Stabber is hurting my ship to much and I need to refocus. So I set my drones on him and try to get some distance between the Stabber an my ship , but by that time my ship is bleeding well into structure. Moments later it explodes.</div>
<div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
<br /></div>
<div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
It was a good fight and I really enjoyed it. Thanx to my opponents, well done guys. Even though you didn't do as you said 2 v 1, hah right. </div>

<div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
Yes! Finally some luck after a long series of losses I managed to get a kill. In a Rupture this time. My first in this hull if I remember correctly.</div>
<div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
<br /></div>
<div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
Yesterday I EFTed the following Rupture fit: </div>
<div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">

<div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
</div>
<div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
</div>
<div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
</div>
<div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
On paper it rocks. </div>
<div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
With the XL-ASB tank and about 500 DPS with my skills. It is pretty fast too:1500m/s with an MWD and about 600m/s with this afterburner fit. I choose the afterburner this time but a MWD will work just as well. The LADAR backup Array is there to have a little help vs ecm drones. The total fit costs about 40mil in Jita. </div>
<div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
<br /></div>
<div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
</div>
<div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
</div>
<div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
I managed to get into a brawls with a blaster Moa, which I won. It was a close fight non the less with me having no armor left and 1 cap booster in my ASB . The Moa had a buffer tank and was a really tough nut to crack and its DPS was considerable. I think my afterburner helped a little to avoid some of that damage by orbiting. Still, I was webbed the whole time.. so I am not sure. There are so many variables in this game. </div>
<div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
<br /></div>
<div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
</div>
<div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
Looking at his fit he made a smart decision, in my view, to have 2 EM rigs on his boat. First thing people do , I guess, is switch to em damage ammo when they see a Caldary ship. This increased his tank towards the EMP ammo I was using.</div>
<div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
<br /></div>
<div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
</div>
<div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
</div>
<div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
Anyways, I am happy to have a gf again. Good for my morale.<br /></div>

Quick combat evaluation.<br />
<br />
I have been flying an Arbitrator in low sec this last week. Not the one I have described on this blog earlier but a tracking disruptor and nano version. It still does about 370 DPS with a 17k tank and 1425 km/s. The biggest downside for me is its cap. It doesn't have a large reserve of that so running the MWD too long isn't really an option ( which is prob not a good thing on a kiting ship^^). Decent I'd say on paper so I wanted to try it in real combat.<br />
<br />
Today I got my chance vs a Cyclone. He jumped into a system with me and I decided to warp to a planet at 70km while trying to make it obvious where I was warping to. So I picked one of the 'outer rim' planets not one near the sun.<br />
<br />
He shortly followed me after. My strategy with this ship is to kite while mitigating his DPS with my TD and let my drones and own 2 turrets do the damage. So I warped to 70km thinking he would warp to 0m. Unfortunately he managed to land right on top of me and scrammed me before I could manage to get out of scram range. So first part of my tactics had fallen to peaces already but.. it wasn't lost yet so I activated my TD , launched my drones and piloted my ship to fly away from him to see how the fight would develop. Then his drones jammed me... And I was jammed most of the fight. I managed to regain lock when I was in about 20% shields but at that moment I was still in scram range. Unable to get away my ship slowly died. I did manage to get some distance between me by clever piloting which delayed my inevitable demise for longer that I had expected. But die it did. Goodbye Arbitrator.<br />
<br />
Thinking back there are a couple of things that I could have done better. One; once I had landed at the planet I aligned to the gate where I came from ( and the gate the cyclone was coming from) . So it might have been that he warped to 100km and that I had flow back in the same path that he was coming from making it more likely that he would land closer to me. It would have been better if I had made a 90 degree turn and burned away for a bit from the trajectory he was coming from. There is always a chance that someone will come in at unpredicted distances so it is safer to burn of in a different direction.<br />
<br />
Secondly I should have had drones on my overview. I didn't because I like to de clutter my overview as much as possible and I have a separate tab for drones but now I didn't see the drones fast enough so I could not respond to him launching ECM till I was too late.<br />
<br />
And I should have launched my drones before he landed. It was clear we were going to fight, why didn;t I?! Ah well.. Mistakes will be made.<br />
<br />
It sucks being pawned like that though.. damn. Anyways, tomorrow is another day for another fight.<br />
<br />
Glad to fly an Abry again, btw. I Love it so, I hope I can make it work with the new drone mod.<br />
<br />
<br /></div>VR Highfivehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12001946014930244244noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4471164660300067489.post-19962487905442759422012-07-16T13:08:00.000-07:002012-07-16T13:08:01.474-07:00Sometimes...<div dir="ltr" style="text-align: left;" trbidi="on">
.. I just want to slap myself in the face while PvPing. (fortunately I don't)<br />
<br />
After a few weeks of non PvP I took a few cruisers out to play. <br />
<br />
The first , a Stabber that I manage to loose in a pefectly manageable gate camp: couple of T3 BC 250 from the gate and 2 tackle frigs near the gate. For some reason I panic... forget all I have learned since I started PvPing and fuck everything up.. I even forget to activate my guns and MWD.. Total blackout on my side and my ships pops without much of a fight followed by my pod..<br />
<br />
Later I am flying around Placid in low sec and spot an Ishkur.. we fight and I get him to structure when a falcon decloakes and jams me. I warp out.. <sigh> later I realize I still had six drones unused in my drone bay.. That Ishkur would have so died if I had thought of launching them. Would have made my day too after the Stabber loss. I could also have stuck around longer as my tanks was fine and I had neuted the Iskur to hell.<br />
<br />
Anyways, more lessons learned. <br />
<br />
Now for something totally unrelated:<br />
<br />
<div style="color: #b5805d;">

<div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
Yesterday I took my little Merlin for a spin again into Syndicate. I was really looking forward for the thrill of a PvP fight since I hadn't been able to log in to EVE for a week or so. Well I did go into low sec with an Arbitrator looking for trouble but nothing came out of that short adventure so I wanted a quick fight in null. So I head out to 6-CZ49, Syndicate enrty system from Verge Vendor. </div>
<div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
<br /></div>
<div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
When I enter 6-C is the only time I have used a scout so far. I have run into to many gate camps in that system and I think it is such a waste of ships to jump in blind that I have stationed an alt there to spy on the gate before I jump in. I only have one account so I need to relog twice to do that but it is worth it.</div>
<div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
<br /></div>
<div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
This time I spotted with my alt a Taranis, a Merlin and a Kitsune on the Reblier gate in 6-C. The Merlin is a good target for my Merlin, The Taranis.. well not sure if my Merlin could take it on but worth a shot, the Kitsune is not a target. I would avoid the Kitsune like the plaque because of its ECM. But the Kitsune left so I decided to jump in with my main VR Highfive. </div>
<div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
<br /></div>
<div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
Before I jump though I switch my Hybrid ammo to Null S. A few moments later this turn out to be and important decision. When I make the choice before I jump I am playing with the though to 'kite' the other blaster ships using my web/scram/afterburner trio and use the range of null to wear my target down while staying out of their blaster optimal range (assuming they will use antimatter). The optimal of null is 3,6km with 5,7 km falloff while antimatter has 1,1 + 3km. That is why I decide to switch to null. It it really just based on a hunch and curiosity to try this tactic.</div>
<div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
<br /></div>
<div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
So I jump thru and the Taranis sits at a tactical bookmark 300km from the gate or something like that. I warp to a tac as well to get off the gate. By then I have decided to take on the Ranis. I am pretty confident about my setup and I have nothing to loose. What a good opportunity to try something new. The Ranis doesn't approach but warps to a wreck as a invitation to fight or so I interpret his move. I am only to happy to oblige so I warp to the wreck at 0m. I land at 10km from him and the fight starts.</div>
<div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
<br /></div>
<div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
I approach and orbit at 500m AB running... and there it is.. I made the first mistake.. my whole plan out of the window and I am flying like I am using antimatter ammo.. I didn't realize this during the fight only after . So what happens is that we approach and I start damaging him pretty early. Its going really well and his shield and armor go down fast. He has a small armor rep and he is repping as hard he can but in the first 15 sec the fight is going my way. I start feeling hopeful .. might I actually kill a Taranis in my T1 frig? </div>
<div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
<br /></div>
<div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
But .. when he is at 10% armor the DPS I do to him stops. I wonder is he tanking my DPS with his rep? He isn't regaining armor? Am I not hitting, he is now fairly close and blasting away at my shield which are holding oke even though his blasters are taking big chunck from it every volley the ASB can keep up with it somewhat. But as I am not damaging him anymore.. I am not sure what to do at that moment but wait for the inevitable; my boosters running out.. I keep hoping for hits but it doesn't happen and after my ASB runs out my ship pops seconds later. </div>
<div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
<br /></div>
<div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
It was still pretty close and am not unhappy with my fight vs a T2 frig but I am left with a feeling that I could have gotten more out of that. After the fight when I had warped my pod to safety I remembered I had null loaded.. and later I realized that was probably the reason why I failed this time. </div>
<div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
<br /></div>
<div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
First of all the decision to orbit at 500 while having null loaded was a bad move. When the Taranis got close I prob could not track him anymore. I assume he was dual prop fitted. I always assume Ranis are Dual prop:). So with me and him orbiting with afterburners on tracking might have gotten real difficult with null ammo. </div>
<div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
<br /></div>
<div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
Had I loaded Antimatter I might have done much better as it had better tracking and more DPS.</div>
<div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
<br /></div>
<div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
With null I should have followed my original plan: try to stay at 3,5km. Not sure if that would have worked with a dual prob adversary but it would have made more sense. </div>
<div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
<br /></div>
<div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
Anyways.. it was a good lesson. Next time I will try something else; Stick with tha initial plan. </div>
<div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
<br /></div>
<div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
</div>
<div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">

<div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
I saw Merlins being used in the first match of the Alliance tournament and I thought I'd like to write my thoughts about them down because since they got rebalanced I really like this little ship.</div>
<div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
<br /></div>
<div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
The Merlin was one of the frigates together with the Tormenter, Rifter, Punisher and Incursus that was changed in CCP's ship balancing project. </div>
<div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
<br /></div>
<div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
Being interested in flying cheap ship for learning PvP I was curious at the changes and did some EFTing with them. </div>
<div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
<br /></div>
<div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
The Merlin caught my eye the most in its new form. I can't even remember the old bonuses it had I think it was a shield resist bonus and a rocket velocity bonus.. forgive me if I am wrong. Anyway.. CCP made it into a little brawler with a 5% shield resist and a 5% hybrid damage bonus.</div>
<div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
<br /></div>
<div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
A resist bonus screams active tank to me and especially the Ancillary shield booster (ASB) so I EFT ed a fit with one and came up with the fit below.</div>
<div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
<br /></div>
<div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
When theorizing about a possible fit I like to find a balance between the DPS it can apply to its targets and the DPS it can absorb before exploding. I found a very nice balance in the following fit;</div>
<div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
<br /></div>
<div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">

<div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
</div>
<div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
With all skills at lvl 5 the stats are: </div>
<div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
DPS:155DPS , (178 OH)</div>
<div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
EHP: 3627 or 1563HP</div>
<div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
SHIELDBOOST: 146HP, (170HP OH) for 10 cycles = 1460HP (1700HP OH) </div>
<div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
Velocity max: 1043m/s</div>
<div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
Optimal: 1.3km</div>
<div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
Falloff: 4.1km</div>
<div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
<br /></div>
<div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
Lets look at the tank with the ASB.. and to compare lets calculate the HP not the EHP. </div>
<div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
<br /></div>
<div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
The basis is 1563HP ad the cycles of the ASB to that overheated because that is how I use it always. The ASB can take a lot of overheat compared to the other modules, almost 4 minutes which is much longer than a fight will last. </div>
<div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
<br /></div>
<div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
So total tank= 1563+1700= 3263HP. Compare that to a simular buffer tank with a medium extender (2876HP) and you will see that the ASB give you more survivability. But for a short while ofcourse.</div>
<div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
<br /></div>
<div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
My oppinion is that the DPS is pretty good for a T1 frig. The problem is as with any blaster ship is applying the dps onto the target. The optimal is very short and so is the falloff with Antimatter ammo. Getting in close which you need to do can give problems with tracking but fortunately the Merlin can fit a web and a scram. </div>
<div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
<br /></div>
<div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
The choice for Neutron blasters was not really for the extra DPS because they don't an much more (about10) but for extra range and they fit of course. I put the tracking enhancer in there as well to get more range out of the turrets and better tracking as I am not really sure if the blasters will track well enough. I am still learning what works best but as I mentioned I want to make sure I can apply all that DPS on target. High DPS is no use if you can't hit your target. </div>
<div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
<br /></div>
<div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
Even with null ammo loaded the DPS is not too bad (123 and 140OH) and I personally would prefer having null loaded over antimatter so I can start applying damage as soon as possible. Unless I was sure that I would be on top of my target in no time.</div>
<div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
<br /></div>
<div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
The speed is alright , nothing to write home about but not too bad. You can exchange the Afterburner for an MWD without changing anything on the fit which is convenient. Till now I have flown it with a afterburner but I keep a MWD in the cargobay if I change my mind.</div>
<div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
<br /></div>
<div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
So all in all I think this ship rocks in its current state with the ASB and even without it. I have had a couple of fight in it vs Rifters (the former king of t1 frigs, excluding pirate and faction frigs ; ) .</div>
<div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
<br /></div>
<div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
I took one down relatively easy and of another ended undecided. I had to leave grid though when my booster charges ran out. </div>
<div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
<br /></div>
<div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
BTW don't be afraid to comment or correct any kind of mistakes I might have made in my calculations. I am still learning a lot of how this all works and how I should interpret the information I get from EFT or Pyfa. Also and advice you may have is welcome.</div>

<div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
This sunday I probably had my most successful solo fight of my career so far.</div>
<div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
<br /></div>
<div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
Roaming Syndicate late in the evening in my artillery Thrasher I ended up in JH-M2 . Different gangs were roaming the area and I was following the most traveled routes using an IGB tracker website (I'll link it below).</div>
<div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
<br /></div>
<div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
At one of the gates I found a group of Agony T1 frigates. I guess waiting for information from a scout or something, I don't know, but it was a perfect opportunity for me to try and get get a good fight.</div>
<div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
<br /></div>
<div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
So I warped to the gate at about 30 or 50km,can't remember exactly. I just know that I didn't want to get too close to them while also wanting to be close enough to be an interesting target. Having experienced Agony members before in fights and knowing they were in a gang I assumed they would not find my single Thrasher too threatening. </div>
<div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
<br /></div>
<div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
My plan was to burn from the gate as they would give chase and pop as many of them as I could before the would get close and swarm me. If they could get on top of me it would be game over for my ship.</div>
<div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
<br /></div>
<div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
Unfortunately a heavy interdictor landed at the gate at the same time as I did. Apparently he also having a mind to catch a few T1 frigs. Soon to be followed by a small battlecruiser gang consisting mostly of Hurricanes. So it was time for me to bail and warp to a tac on the same gate.</div>
<div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
<br /></div>
<div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
The Agony gang jumped when the dictor arrived, I think. They lost 1 frigate in the process if I recall correctly. They still had a Ares on the grid who decided it had an appetite for Thrashers. In other words; it was going fullspeed for my ship :). Gotta love those interceptor pilots who burn 250km to a target.</div>
<div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
<br /></div>
<div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
Nothing much came out of that fight between me and the Ares. Except for me having to leave the grid. I did my standard protocol flying this type of ship when he approached> align, keep my distance as long as possible and let him fly into my DPS but that didn't work with this guy. He changed course after getting hit a few times and evaded the rest of my shots. Time to warp out. I had mistakenly overheated my MWD to long and it burned out. Time to leave and repair.</div>
<div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
<br /></div>
<div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
A few minutes later, Round2. AT the same gate I warp to my tactical bookmark and an Agony Rifter arrives at a tac on grid as well. I figure his friends can't be far off so I warp to the gate and jump, guessing he will follow with some friends. I burn from the gate right away to get some distance between me and my attackers when they come thru and set my modules for overheated operation.</div>
<div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
<br /></div>
<div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
Moments later the Rifter arrives and starts to burn right towards me. Perfect. When in range (30km on those arties :) yay!) I open fire and he pops. 2 of his friends jump in, in Rifters, as well. They give chase and I lock em up and they pop .. that went faster than I expected. But in the mean time more people arrived thru the gate, the Ares , an Incursus and 2 Merlins.. I go for the Ares first but can't get enough DPS on him. He evades my guns and when he comes closer he scrams me. I switch to the Incursus thinking I might be able to take him down before my ship blows up. He is coming dangerously close.. 15km.. and closing. I get him to structure before I get webbed, and he is orbiting me soon after. The fight is then over for me. </div>
<div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
<br /></div>
<div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
My Thrasher pops and I warp my pod to safety. When checking my killmail/lossmail I noticed a few cruisers had been present as well, I never noticed them :D. That tends to happen to me more often. </div>
<div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
<br /></div>
<div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
Three kills in one fight, best I have done so far. The sacrifice of a Thrasher was worth it to me. And four kills in one ship (1 Ranis and the 3 from this fight), pretty sweet. To bad I didn't get the Incursus but hey, there is always room for improvement. :-)</div>

<br />
I have been having a little more luck this week as far as kills vs losses are concerned.And I must say that I am very happy about that. It is great for my morale.<br />
<br />
First off I got a unexpected kill when making new bookmarks in 6-CZ46 (my old ones had been compromised by Agony earlier in the week). While bookmarking a little Rifter started hanging around the Reblier gate. I was in a Malediction so after I was finished making my bookmarks I though what the hell, lets go for it. He obviously wanted to fight. I warped to him as he was sitting near a warp disruption bubble set my orbit , scrammed his ship and started shooting.<br />
<br />
I expected him to have autocannons fitted so my idea was to orbit a 5 km , keep him scrammed and webbed and tank any damage with my small armor rep. The 5km would make sure I could keep my Nosferatu running to fuel the rep while decreasing his DPS on me by staying at the edge of his turret falloff (about 7km). And the wonderful range of rockets allowed me to do full DPS on him at the same time. <br />
<br />
This all went surprisingly well and the Rifter popped rather quickly while I didn't have to use my repper once. And as it turns out he was artillery fit. That is one of the the wonderful things about EVE I think, people fly all kind of exotic fits:). I just never really know what to expect, I just always assume the worst.<br />
<br />
<br />
A couple of days later I took a Thrasher out to play which had been sitting in my hangar for some time. It is artillery fit and I stole the fitting from Iczer X01 who made a video a while back using it. Here is the link: <a href="https://forums.eveonline.com/default.aspx?g=posts&t=110953&find=unread">Link to Iczer vid Soloing PVP v2</a>. Go check it out I think its really good.<br />

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;"></td></tr>

<span style="font-size: x-small;">You don't need glasses, the image is blurry ;) </span><br />
<br />
The tactics involved with this fit are very simular to that of the Coercer. The idea is to keep distance between the ship and the opponent as long as you can and kill it before it can get too close to scram and orbit. It something catches you you are dead. The artillery turrets will never track anything orbiting close.<br />
<br />
The Thrasher has the advantage over the Coercer of having a warp
disrupter so I can prevent ships from warping away when they notice they
are loosing and its faster as well. The DPS is not that good though:
150 (with my skills) and 175 overheated. Primary target of this ship
are frigates and slower destroyers. I can't imagine it taking on
cruisers and such. But I can be wrong. <br />
<br />
What I would do when presented with an opponent is to wait till they approach then align to a celestial and fly as fast as I could away from the target while they try to intercept. When in range it is a matter of activating the turrets and see what happens and manage heat of course. <br />
<br />
This way I managed to down a Taranis with the Thrasher in 6-CZ49. I think the person was surprised by the arty fitted as most Thrashers are shield tank autocannon brawler as far as I have seen in Syndicate. He engaged very aggressively and noticed to late what was happening I assume. By the time he did it was too late. It took 5 salvo's to take it down. The alfastrike of the artillery guns was impressive to see and the Ranis had little tank of course. Got some nice loot from his wreck too. Sweet. <br />

<div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
</div>
<div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
<br />
<br />
Yep another Cormorant. <br />
<br />
Just when I thought I had a fit that I liked and I could not improve upon I saw Kovorix video <a href="https://forums.eveonline.com/default.aspx?g=posts&m=1454526#post1454526">Everlasting</a> II . Which is another very good video of his and probably his best one so far. Go and check it out if you have not. </div>
<div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
<br /></div>
<div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
What caught my eye in this vid is the last fight. 2 Maelstroms take on a fleet and beat them without to much trouble so it seems. Kovorix seems to quit easily tank the incoming DPS and the reason seems to be that he is using 2 XL Ancillary shield boosters. </div>
<div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
<br /></div>
<div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
Now the ancillary shield boosters are new modules that came with Inferno. I have never used them before as I have never been into shield boosters and I wanted to keep things simple while I was learning PvP with as few active mods as possible. But seeing Kovorix use them with such effectiveness I got inspired. I wanted to see if they could work on smaller ships. I wanted to see if a ancillary shield booster would work on a Cormorant. </div>
<div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
<br /></div>
<div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
Till now I had never played with this new module but I got a real good impression on how they worked from watching the video and Kovorix also showed how they could be used effectively. Most importantly , what was new for me to see in that is is that you can use the booster gradually. You don't have to use all the boosters all in one activation. I kinda had the impression before that you just had to turn it on and that was it. You can for instance use 1/2 of the charges and them stop tanking and continue tanking when needed. Which allows controlled tanking as with any other armor rep or shield booster. </div>
<div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
<br /></div>
<div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
From what I understand a ancillary shield booster is basically 2 modules put together; a shield booster and a cap booster. It is like an shield booster with its own cap supply. You load it with cap charges as with a cap booster and when you activate the booster it will consume the charges while boosting your shields without using your ships cap. The downside is that is has limited charges so it can be used a limited number of times this way before it needs to reload it's charges which takes 60 seconds. So after a short time the fun is over or... you can still run the booster but it will use your ships cap and it will drain your cap real quick. </div>
<div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
<br /></div>
<div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
So basically you got a limited amount of time where you can get a very decent amount of shield boost after which there is a long reload time.<br />
<br />
This is one of the fits that I have come up with so far. </div>
<div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">

I have been testing this fit and another variation of it on sisi and so far it seems to perform better than my older versions. If it is good enough .. idk yet. I got 10 hulls on the production lines in Dodixie as I write this to test them in the wild on TQ . I hope I will be able to take them out for a spin this weekend.<br />
<br />
I also noticed that with the tracking bonuses of the destroyer class in combination with the web that the tracking reduction of Void isn't much of a factor anymore. So I have switched to Void for its better DPS and its longer optimal over faction antimatter ammo.<br />
<br />
The NOS is still something that could change out for a few Ion blasters. It is there now to help me in prolonged fights when my booster runs out and I'll be boosting on my ships capacitor. I am not sure yet if will be useful. </div>

<div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
This is a summary of the fights I had last week. I have lost a lot of ships , didn't kill many , well.. 1, a Rifter. But I had fun most of the time. And I learned a few things.<br />
<br />
Side note: My apologies for any spelling mistakes or incorrect English grammar. I didn't feel like spell checking today :-).</div>
<div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
</div>
<h4 style="color: #e69138; font-family: Times,"Times New Roman",serif; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-size: large;"><i><b>03 June</b></i></span></h4>
<div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
</div>
<div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
<b><i>Fight 1, Jorund starsystem, Curse region:<span style="color: blue;"> Cormorant </span>vs <span style="color: red;">Vagabond, Tornado, Vigilant.</span></i></b></div>
<div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
I jump into Jorund form Hemin ( I don't use a scout btw which makes jumping into systems a surprise every time) and find the above 3 ships at 0m from the gate. So then I need to decide what to do: burn for the gate or try to align out and warp to a celestial. Unfortunately I do not have a insta bookmark on this gate (a bookmark that is directly in front/in line of the gate so I can warp quicker). I have some time until I will decloak so I take as much as I need. I don't think that it will matter much though. <br />
<br />
Flying back to the gate doesn't seem like a good idea as I will fly right into their DPS so I align and try to warp. To no avail, they are paying attention and my ship dies a quick death. POOF!</div>
<div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
<br /></div>
<span style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">Nothing I could do about that.</span><br />
<div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
<br /></div>
<div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
<b><i>Fight 2, 6-CZ49 starsystem, Syndicate region: <span style="color: blue;">Rupture </span>vs <span style="color: red;">Eagle, Wolf, Rifter, Jaguar</span></i></b></div>
<div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
I jump into 6-CZ49 (Syndicate entry system) from Reblier. I hold my cloak and see that a Wolf , an Eagle and a Jag are sitting at tacs about 250km away around the gate while a Rifter jumped into the system with me.<br />
<br />
I decide to burn from the gate MWD running and target the Rifter (easiest target and the only one in range). The Wolf then warps onto the Rifter, or so I believe and the Rifter almost goes down but manages to warp off before he pops.<br />
<br />
My ship is taking fire from the other 3 by now and its going down. When my shields are down and my armour is dropping I realize I am not aligned to anything so I align to a planet to warp out . But... then my cap goes dry.. and I don't warp.. wtf?! Prob have been burning my MWD too long. My ships stays on grid and it dies. </div>

Lesson learned: </div>
<ul style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif; text-align: left;">
<li>Align to something when burning away.That surely would have saved my ship I was well aware that it was going down. A few extra sec would have made all the difference. </li>

<div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
This time I am in my webby Cormorant fortunately. As I jump into 6-CZ49 a Rifter follows me from Reblier. I hold cloack to look at the situation: 2 Thrashers are sitting at tacs around the gate. Not too bad, it seems they are all from different alliances./corps so less chance of getting gang raped. I decloak and so does the Rifter. To my surprise he attacks aggressively closing the distance fast to apply his DPS. Not the wisest choice on his part but brave. This is what my Cormy was made for so we brawl and he pops.</div>
<div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
<br /></div>
<div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
I got 25% shield left, to little to take on a Thrasher so I decide to warp out without looting the wreck. </div>

<b><i>Fight2, </i></b><b><i>6-CZ49 starsystem, Syndicate region:</i></b><b><i> <span style="color: blue;">Cormorant</span> vs <span style="color: red;">Thrasher.</span></i></b></div>
<div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
A few minutes later me at the same gate me and a Thrasher are at a tac. I warp to the Rifter wreck from before to persuade him to follow.<br />
<br />
He does and lands 20km away from me. We approach each other (for a moment I suspect a Arty fit but he is not and happy to approach as well) and brawl. I make the mistake to come too close while I would have been better of at the edge of my optimal (2km). His DPS is way higher than mine and my ship dies.<br />
<br />
Not much more to say really. A simple fight. I should have managed my distance better, that is all. </div>

<b><i>Fight 3, </i></b><b><i>6-CZ49 starsystem, Syndicate region (</i></b><b><i>not really a fight though): <span style="color: blue;">Cormorant </span>vs <span style="color: red;">the blob</span></i></b></div>
<div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
I jump into 6-CZ49 from Reblier and find a blob at the gate. To many ships to count really. My overview just filled up with all kind of ships sitting on the gate. I type something in local chat expressing my disappointment with my current predicament and decide to burn for the gate not expecting to make it. My ship dies quickly.<br />
<br />
I do make the mistake here to not declutter my overview before burning to the gate (I got a tab that will only show celestials, should have switched to that ) So I could not find a place to warp my pod to once my ship was down in time and so I lost my pod as well. Bummer..</div>
<div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">

<div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
This fight has a predictable result :-). I find the Sabre at a tac on the Reblier gate. Alone which is suspicious enough ofcourse but hey.. I am there to fight so what the hell, lets do it. I align to the gate and consider playing the innocent 'just traveling through' act by jumping thru the gate and coming back a few moments later. But he takes the initiative and warps almost directly on top of my ship. Which is fine by me. I approach and we brawl . Mine and his shields go down evenly until the Falcon decloaks and and jams me. That is the end of the fight for me. My ship and later my pod get webbed and die in the interdictor bubble. </div>
<div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
<br /></div>
<div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
Maybe I could have done better here if I could have kept burning to the gate instead of approaching the Sabre and brawl. That might have given me more options.</div>
<div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
<i><br /></i></div>
<div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
<b><i>Fight 2, </i></b><b><i>6-CZ49 starsystem, Syndicate region</i></b><b><i>:</i></b><b><i> <span style="color: blue;">Coercer </span>vs <span style="color: red;">Taranis</span></i></b></div>
<div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
Me and a Ranis played around a bit at near a station. I warped to the station and found him there lurking about. He approached me several times while I would fire when he got within my lazors range. Then he would fly away again out of range. I got him into structure and I was happy to see that the turrets were able to apply damage even when he got within 10km.<br />
<br />
It was never enough to destroy his ship though and he didn't make any mistakes. I couldn't keep him in range as he is much to fast.</div>
<div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
<br /></div>
<div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
After doing that for a bit I warped to a planet to see if he would warp in at a close range to give me time to apply enough DPS to finish him off but no such luck. The fight ends undecided. </div>
<div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
<b><br /></b></div>
<div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
<b><i>Fight3, </i></b><b><i>6-CZ49 starsystem, Syndicate region</i></b><b><i>:</i></b><b><i> <span style="color: blue;">Coercer </span>vs <span style="color: red;">Stabber Fleet Issue, Ishtar, Taranis.</span></i></b></div>
<div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
I warp to my tac near the Reblier gate and find the Stabber, Ishtar and the Ranis are on separate tacs around the gate. The Ranis is the only viable target for me of the three so I hope they send him after me. There might be a chance then that I could take him out.<br />
<br />
So I align my ship to a planet (having learned that from my Rupture loss) to warp out quickly if needed. And see how the situation develops. But.. I then click on the Taranis in the overview to see what his location is in relation to mine so I loose the planet as my selected target.. that is a mistake. The Stabber then warps to me a few seconds later.<br />
<br />
I then realize my align/targeting mistake and try to find a warpout point which I fail to do being somewhat startled by the Stabbers warp. I am pretty stressed at that moment. I am sure that it is useless to fight the stabber. His tank is probably to strong, He's to fast and his friends will be on me in moments. I frantically try to find and click on the celestial that I am flying towards. <br />
<br />
The Ishtar and Taranis warp on to of me as well moments later and my ship dies. In a last resort I target and try to kill the Ranis but that didn't work. Damn. But alright another mistake and another way I can improve my game ;).</div>
<div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
<br /></div>
<div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
What is interesting about this fight to me, btw, is that they seemed to find my bookmark almost instantly. I realized later how they did that. </div>
<div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
<br /></div>
<div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
When I had jumped into the system earlier and checked my directional scanner I noticed that there we 5 or 6 combat probes on scan. When this is the case it usually means that the probes are close by. I assume that these were from a pilot flying with the Stabber, Ranis, Ishtar (from Agony Unleashed in this case, I ran into these guys/girls a lot this week) . So they were probably scanning the whole area around the gate all the time when ships warp in.<br />
<br />
They scanned me down real quick and had there cov ops ( I assume) warp to me and then the rest of the ships in their fleet could follow and land right on top of me. Very smart and something to look out for next time. I will also need to make new bookmarks around the gate preferably<br />
more than 1^^.<br />

I am very fond of the Cormorant at the moment so I have been playing around in EFT trying to make it better than the earlier fit that I already liked. Yesterday after a few pretty bad fights this weekend and losses I logged onto Sisi to test a little bit and. I found, to my surprise , I had a fit from a weeks ago in the hangar there that is actually a little better than my previous MkI fit. </div>

</div>
<div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
<br /></div>
<div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
In comparison tho the other fit that I discussed earlier it has 1500EHP more but 30 DPS less. </div>
<div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
<br /></div>
<div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
</div>
<div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
</div>
<div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
I also traded the TD for a web. More on that later.. </div>
<div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
<br /></div>
<div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
</div>
<div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
Personally I prob prefer this for over my earlier one. It has more survivability than the MkI and the 1500 EHP is prob. more beneficial than the extra 30DPS of the MkI. For instance If I am fighting versus an opponent that does around 250 DPS which is about what a AF or Dessy can put out (aprox.) then that is 6 seconds extended life for my ship. </div>
<div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
<br /></div>
<div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
I have tried to calculate what the effect would be of the reduction in DPS and if the MkI could do more DPS before it died than the the MkII but there are just so many variables that it is just really hard to take all of those into consideration. And it is all very theoretical.</div>
<div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
<br /></div>
<div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
Now , about the web.<br />
<br />
First of all I feel I need to say that I am still very much finding my way in what works on pvp fits and not, how certain modules and ammo work in fights and in what situation they work best. I am learning this by trial and error. This was also the case with the web/TD choice. </div>
<div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
<br /></div>
<div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
As much as I love the TD I think, judging from my experience in the last few days, that the web is prob the wisest choice because it is more useful in more situations. I am pretty sure that I would have killed that Crusader a few days ago if I had a web. So for smaller, faster stuff it is better than having a TD I think. Stil figuring this out though.<br />
<br />
My impression now is that the TD is great for things like the arty Wolf/Thrasher or a slicer and other small things that try to kite where I can force them to come close by cutting down their optimals/falloff. So the web is prob more useful in general hence I put in on there. Anyways.. still more experience needs to be gained :). I will still fly with the TD, there many arty Thrashers out there you know. </div>
<div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
<br /></div>
<div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
Can't wait to try this fit, lets see how it works out.</div>

<div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
<b>Starsystem: ZNO-SR</b></div>
<div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
<b>Cormorant vs Crusader, Vengeance, Rifter, Drake</b></div>
<div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
<br /></div>
<div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
I ended up in this system earlier today before downtime while roaming. There seemed to be some activity there judging from the map but when I arrived no targets of interest were in space. Just a few people in local. I docked up and called it a day .</div>
<div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
<br /></div>
<div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
This evening I logged in again to find the number of local had increased to 20+ . Usually I don't like that many in local especially when many of them are from the same corp or alliance but I had the impression from my earlier experience in this small pocket in Syndicate that the occupants were more into carebearing than PvP. Although I expect that if people carebear in null that they also have experience in PvP, At least some as they need to defend their ' territory' on occasion I assume. </div>
<div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
<br /></div>
<div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
I am usually pretty careful when it comes to picking opportunities to roam and fight but this evening I felt more reckless and thought what the heck lets loose a ship. If it happens it happens, I just really wanted to get some action. </div>
<div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
<br /></div>
<div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
So I undocked expecting ships to sit at the undock and ready to hit 'shift - space' and redock if needed. But noone was there so I started to warp around celestial to scan for ships. I spotted several. A Bestower, a Crusader , a Drake and a Naga. So I used my scanner to locate them and found the Drake at a gate. I warped to the gate wat 100km ( I didn't have a tactical there) I just wanted to have a look and see who the Drake pilot was, let my presence be known and maybe lure the Crusader in if they were from the same corp ofcourse. Which I didn't know at the time. So I hung around the gate at 100k while nothing really happened. The Drake didn't move and nothing appeared on scan. </div>
<div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
<br /></div>
<div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
The next thing I did was warp to a planet. A planet that is one of the farthest from the sun so it is Cristal clear that I am warping to that particular planet if the Drake pilot was paying attention. In this case it had only one belt I believe. If anyone was interested in catching me he would know where to look (assuming again that these people are talking to each other on comms).</div>
<div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
<br /></div>
<div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
So I arrived on the planet and F***^*&%$#@ fly right into the customs office. I HATE that because I usually bump of it in some unexpected direction and then it costs me valuable time to align to something else. If I was being chased I needed that precious time to get away. This almost always happens when I warp to planets even when I warp to other distances than 0m. I find it very annoying to say the least. Anyways, rant over lets continue..</div>
<div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
<br /></div>
<div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
When I arrived at the planet a Bestower appeared on scan. It wasn't there before so I know its not at a POS or something, there are no POSSES on scan.. could it be that he has warped to the office to deliver or pick up PI goods?? And yes, he has. Moments later he arrives at 0m from the CO right beside my little Cormorant. I can't believe my luck .. I lock him up as fast as I can ... and that is that.. his tank drops quick and a few moments later the hauler is a molten wreck. Happy days:). Ofcourse his friends are not pleased I assume .. and the crusader and a Vengeance show up on scan.. It is time to decide.. Fight or flee?</div>
<div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
<br /></div>
<div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
I stay to fight. And fly away from the CO as fast as I can. I don't want to end up in a blob as they start arriving. I am assuming at that moment that the Crusader and the Vengeance are the first of many that will arrive soon. </div>
<div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
<br /></div>
<div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
As I mwd away the Crusader arrives. I decide that I am going to focus on that ship. To kill just one of them would be a plendid victory for me. And I don't expect to make it out with my ship. </div>
<div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
<br /></div>
<div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
He locks and approaches. He even comes withing scram range. I lock him back, scram, activate TD and my guns. He goes down quick but manages to increase the distance between me and him. I give chase but to no avail, he is way faster. He passed 4 km and the damage I do stops when he has 20% structure left. He is prob active tanked and I see his armour go up again a little. I pray for 1 more hit on his ship to finish him off but the vengeance and a Rifter are upon me. I didn't even notice the Drake until I saw my loss mail. Apparently he had arrived as well. A few moments later my Cormorant pops and I warp my pod to safety. </div>
<div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
<br /></div>
<div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
So what could I have done better. What is there to learn from this experience? Well I did everything right I think up until I started having tunnel vision about killing the Crusader. </div>
<div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
<br /></div>
<div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
I lost situational awareness there. I didn't notice the Drake come in but ... that didn't matter at that time anyway. Once the Drake arrived the frigs were on top of and me there wasn't much that I could have done that would have made any difference to my survival, I think. And I was unlucky with the crusader. 1 more hit would have ended him but hey that is life in EVE. Gratz to him for surviving.</div>
<div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">

Aftermath: <br />
<br />
After the fight I logged off in my noobship thinking I would save myself the trouble of undocking after I logged in next time and get out of the system quick. Unfortunalty , and this was my mistake, a timer was still running when I logged to my ship was still very visible on scan for I expect 15 min. The locals and the Hauler pilot decided to get some payback and probed me down. When I logged back in I was it was in a new clone 35 jumps away from syndicate..<br />
<br />
That didn't feel to good.I won't make that mistake again though :).</div>

Yay! First kill on its first trip: An arty Wolf.What a prize and some faction loot as well. Sweet!<br />
<br />
Check battleclinic if you are interested in the KM. </div>
<div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
<br /></div>
<div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
He landed at the gate while I was aligning to another gate and we went at each other right away. He locked first and started shooting, and hitting, me from 15-20km indicating that he was arty fit. I was a little confused by that because I had expected AC's. After the fight I checked a few other Wolf fits that were destroyed in the region and most of them were arty fit which is good to know. <br />
<br />
After my initial surprise I activated my TD (in which I have a optimal range script loaded most of the time) to cut down his range and damage to manageable levels. I was hoping that this would allow me to get in close without loosing to much HP. <br />
<br />
Being arty fit I expected him to try to keep range and kite me the whole fight which would have been a major problem for me having close range damage projection om my dessy. <br />
<br />
But he did not. And I think he made an error because he attempt to kite me at all and actually closed range. Maybe this had to to with my TD idk. TD can draw opponent in closer to keep their DPS up. Maybe that was it, maybe their was another reason but once in scram range it was a matter of keeping him there and letting the blasters do their job hoping that I would do more damage than he did.</div>
<div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
<br /></div>
<div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
One smart thing that I did is that I set 500m orbit with MWD on. I also expected to be scrammed but since he had a point I could defeat his tracking by doing that. Once in orbit the damage from his turrets stopped almost completely while my turrets were at their best range and happily tracking his ship.<br />
<br />
His ship popped when I had 80% structure left. That was still a close fight.<br />
<br />
Copying his fit to EFT he had a tank of about 5.5k with a kinetic hole that worked to my advantage. 5.5k HP tank is still considerable , considering he had 3 nanos fitted so I am happy to see that his ship still went down before given the fact that he had a headstart in DPS and that I lost 25% of my shields before activating my Invul.<br />

<div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
Now for something completely different .<br />
<br />
Just out of curiosity I googled the term "Cormorant" as I didn't know what it meant. I am dutch and my understanding of the English language is limited so I thought it would be interesting to learn something new. What came up in Google is the picture you see above this text: A sea bird.</div>
<div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
<br /></div>
<div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
</div>
<div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
Why CCP would name a Destroyer after a seabird is unclear for me. :) Maybe it is a notorious predator in Iceland??? When I was looking for a picture I kinda expected it to be some mystical demon like creature.</div>
<div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
<br /></div>
<div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
Google is a wonderfull instrument so I had a look again but this time at the <u>mystical</u> meaning of the Cormorant hoping to find something badass. I found this: </div>
<div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
<br /></div>
<blockquote class="tr_bq">
<div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
<i>Many cultures consider cormorants a symbol of nobility and indulgence.
In more recent history, the cormorant is considered a good luck charm
for fishermen, or a talisman that will bring a fisherman a bountiful
catch.</i></div>
</blockquote>
<div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
<br /></div>
<div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
Hmm .. alright. Noble, bringing good luck.. ...still not very EvE like is it.. </div>
<div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
<br /></div>
<div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
But looking further I also found this on the same webpage:</div>
<div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
<br /></div>
<blockquote class="tr_bq">
<div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
<i>The cormorant is also a symbol of greed and deception in John Milton's epic poem, <i>Paradise Lost</i>, as the form Satan took to disguise himself to enter Eden before tempting Eve.</i></div>
</blockquote>
<div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
<br /></div>
<div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
Aaahh .. there you go.... A more appropriate discription for <i> an EvE related ship name :-). </i><br />
<br />
<i>Devil in disguise </i><br />

<div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
<span style="font-size: small;">With the launch of Inferno the Arbitrator got more interesting</span></div>
<div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
<span style="font-size: small;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
<span style="font-size: small;">The reason is:</span><span style="font-size: small;"> Drone damage modules were introduced. </span></div>
<ol style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif; text-align: left;">
</ol>
<div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif; text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-size: small;">Now the Arbi has ship bonuses to drone damage and TD effectiveness. With the added option of increasing drone damage output by using the drone damage mods will it become a viable solo ship?</span></div>
<div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
<span style="font-size: small;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif; text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-size: small;">I have always loved the Arbi and I have been in the past tried to find fits that I could use for solo work. But I never found one that really worked. </span><span style="font-size: small;">I would ussualy fitted them like I would fit a Pilgrim with a armor tank, neuts and a TD. But</span><span style="font-size: small;"> had always to little damage output compared to the tank that it could fit. It was decent and could take on other cruisers 1v1 but in a real PvP environment I found it lacking. (ahem.. I have to say that my poor piloting might have something to do with it too, :) ). </span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-size: small;">So I gave up on it, at some point , as a possible solo ship. It only seamed to shine in fleets as a E-war support vessel. </span></div>
<div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
<span style="font-size: small;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
<span style="font-size: small;">With the changes that came with Inferno I wondered if the drone damage mods could tilt the fitting balance in favour of the Arbitrator because in theory it can be fit with more (drone) DPS. But would it also have a decent tank? It would have to be shield tanked.</span><br />
<span style="font-size: small;"><br /></span><br />
<span style="font-size: small;">The most I could get out of the Arbi before was about 330DPS with a 18k HP armour tank or a 12k HP armour tank with a medium rep. Both fits would have a TD, MWD and cap booster. The 18k version would be slowest ofcourse: 1260m/s or 1780m/s overheated.</span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-size: small;">So I started theory crafting and came up with this:</span></div>
<div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
<span style="font-size: small;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="color: #e69138; font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">

<b><span style="font-size: small;"><i>Damage Control II</i></span></b></div>
<div style="color: #e69138; font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
<b><span style="font-size: small;"><i><br /></i></span></b></div>

<b><span style="font-size: small;"><i>Hammerhead II x2</i></span></b></div>
<div style="color: #e69138; font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
<b><span style="font-size: small;"><i>Hammerhead II x3</i></span></b></div>
<div style="color: #e69138; font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">

<b><span style="font-size: small;"><i>Hobgoblin II x1</i></span></b></div>
<div style="color: #e69138; font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
<b><span style="font-size: small;"><i>Valkyrie II x5</i></span></b></div>
<div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
<span style="font-size: small;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
<span style="font-size: small;">It has a 25k EHP tank and 420 DPS (with Barrage and HH II's) which is more tank and DPS than a shield Rupture!</span></div>
<div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
<br /></div>
<div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
<span style="font-size: small;">Now it is slower and it has less cap than the ship I just compared it to.. but I must say it does look promising. One <u><b>big</b></u> difference though. Almost all dps comes from drones (365DPS) which has of course its advantages and disadvantages.</span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-size: small;">But compared to the best fit I could come up with before it is an improvement in DPS and EHP. What it lacks are the TD and cap. because it has about 1.44min of cap without using the neuts which is IMO to little. </span><br />
<span style="font-size: small;"><br /></span><br />
<span style="font-size: small;">If I ad a TD it will diminish the tank to about 18k EHP and the cap to 1.38min. The EHP would be about the same as the armour tank version but with more DPS and speed. The cap is still a problem I think.</span><br />
<span style="font-size: small;"><br /></span><br />
<span style="font-size: small;">So I am not sure what to make of it yet but I'll give a try on sisi in the next few weeks to see how it performs.</span></div>
<div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
<span style="font-size: small;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
<span style="font-size: small;">Let me know what you think.</span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-size: small;">P.S. sorry for all the font changes. I am still looking for my own style that I like. </span><br />

<div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
<span style="font-size: small;">After my experience with the Coercer I have become very interested in flying more Destroyers so I have been playing around in EFT to assemble dessy fits that could be interesting to use. </span></div>
<div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
<span style="font-size: small;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
<span style="font-size: small;">One of them that I like is this one for the Cormorant:</span></div>
<div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
<span style="font-size: small;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="color: #e69138; font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">

<div style="color: #e69138; font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
<b><span style="font-size: small;"><br /></span></b></div>
<div style="color: #e69138; font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
<b><span style="font-size: small;"><i>Ammo: Null, Void and Faction Antimatter </i></span></b></div>
<div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
<span style="font-size: small;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
<span style="font-size: small;"><b><u>The theory: </u></b></span></div>
<div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
<span style="font-size: small;">The idea is to get in close with it and beat the crap out of anything in range of its guns. What I like about it is that the Cormorant has room for the TD. which will give it an advantage over other close range brawlers like the AC Thrasher or the blaster Catalyst. The TD will cut their optimal & falloff down 50% while the Cormorant will be firing at its optimal. Now a faster ship like a frig or a Thrasher might compensate for that by closing to .0 range range but still .. not sure if people expect it and it might just give me the advantage I need to come out on top in a 1v1 fight.</span></div>
<div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
<span style="font-size: small;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
<span style="font-size: small;">The tank is alright.. ish with an overheated Invul. But I'll need to see how it works out in the wild. </span></div>
<div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
<span style="font-size: small;">I originally had 7 ion blasters in this fit but I found it a bit too critical on cap so I added the Nos in exchange for a electron blaster. The difference is 2 DPS and some range but that might be worth it.</span></div>
<div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
<span style="font-size: small;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
<span style="font-size: small;">I managed to kill an Enyo in it on sisi and I think it has the potential to take on bigger targets as well like cruisers and T3 BC's if I can catch them unawares. And maybe, just maybe BC's but that could be wishful thinking. <strike>I</strike><strike><br /></strike></span></div>
<div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
<span style="font-size: small;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
<span style="font-size: small;"><b>Downsides: </b></span></div>
<ul style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif; text-align: left;">
<li><span style="font-size: small;">It won't outrun anything, and it can be </span><span style="font-size: small;">easily </span><span style="font-size: small;">kited </span></li>
<li><span style="font-size: small;">it is very vulnerable to neuts, </span></li>
<li><span style="font-size: small;">it is only really good for 1v1, 2+ opponents will become a problem real fast.</span></li>
</ul>
<div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
<span style="font-size: small;"><b>Possible targets; </b></span></div>
<ul style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif; text-align: left;">
<li><span style="font-size: small;">Frigs,</span></li>
<li><span style="font-size: small;">Intercepters,</span></li>

<li><span style="font-size: small;">Cruisers,</span></li>

<span style="font-size: large;">Coercer (me) vs Thrasher & Drake</span></div>
<div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
<span style="font-size: large;"> </span></div>
<div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
<span style="font-size: large;">I lost a Coercer today because I underestimated a situation. </span></div>
<div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
<br /></div>
<div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
<span style="font-size: large;">I was sitting 100km from a gate when the Thrasher warped in at 100km from me. Nothing really happened because we both didn't approach eachother. I didn't burn for him because I knew I needed to kite him as much as I could so I ideally I would like him to approach me. But he didn't move either. So I moved away and warped to the gate to see if he might follow. To my surpise he was only 100km away from the gate so it is clear that plan won't work :) I kinda expected him to be further away. </span></div>
<div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
<br /></div>
<div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
<span style="font-size: large;">Anyway I let my ship just sit at the gate to watch his next move and the scanner to see if anyone else shows up. Eventually the Thrasher did burn for me full speed so I accepted the invitation by flying away from the gate and at the same time get in position to activate my MWD when he came in range of my lasors. Everything seemed to be going to plan until a Drake arrived on grid, on the gate. This is just as the Thrasher got into range and I needed to start focussing on my MWD timing.. I realized then that I was well within range of the Drake HML's and I aligned to a planet to warp out. But.. I change my mind and decide to forget the Drake (smart move ;) ) for now as we were moving away from it fast and I really wanted kill the Thrasher. The Thrasher was going down quit well but was getting dangerously close (I should have activated the MWD sooner). </span></div>
<div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
<br /></div>
<div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
<span style="font-size: large;">Then , a few seconds later, my ship blew up.. as the HML's hit from the Drake... I did get my pod out though fortunatly.</span></div>
<div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
<span style="font-size: large;">In hindsight I should have warped out and maybe try to separate the Thrasher if I could. The Drake hit me for full damage because of my activated MWD and this Coercer just doesn't have the tank to take that punishment. It was silly to ignore the Drake. Anyways.. lesson learned.</span></div>
<div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
<span style="font-size: large;">This little Coercer sure earned its costs. 125mil in kills + loot worth about 15mil for a 25mil ship loss. Pretty good I'd say.</span></div>

<div style="text-align: justify;">
<b><br /></b></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<b>This is not a fit I came up with. I 'stole' it from a EvE player </b><b>named Pleniers who posted a video on Youtube where he showed how he (I am assuming its a guy) used this fit. Here is the link: <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O09dqzDo9K0&feature=g-all-u">Link</a> Pls have a look if you haven't seen it yet. I think it is worth your time. Anyway he deserves the credit for the fit. </b></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<b>When I saw it this just looked like so much fun for a a relatively cheap ship that I had to try it. It has got so much going for it that I like; it is Amarr, it has Lazorrrs (<3 \o/), it has decent speed and it does 250+ DPS at 21 km! Yeah.. really, it does :) (with my skills). Amazing right ? I think so. But..... ehm here is the catch ...it ain't got no point. So .. it ain't no good for PvP.. right?</b></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<b>I have always heard ever since I have stared being interested in PvP in EvE that any, any PvP fit needs at least a point or a scram. It is mandatory, how else are you going to prevent your opponent from escaping? I mean , why torture yourself by letting a potential kill escape once he/she/it notices that it is losing the fight. You need that point to get the kill, right?</b></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<b><br /></b></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<b>First time I saw an earlier vid by Pleniers I felt surprised and didn't consider that this could work. Any sane person would warp out if he got the chance, you need a point or scram. </b></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<b> I disregarded the concept as silly that could only work in rare cases and would not be worth anyone's time. </b></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<b><br /></b></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<b>Oke, so later I saw this vid from Kil2: <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3mddWLOOmh8&feature=g-user-u">Daredevil</a></b></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<b>Yeah, same thing with a Daredevil, no point or scram. And.. plenty of kills.. Now, Kil2 is my EvE pvp hero. I watch almost all his vids and his and Koverix's commentary video's are my mains source of study material for learning PvP. So now I was taking this concept very seriously and started thinking about it. </b></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<b>Watching this video I finally got how this concept worked: it is based on psychology not theory.. It is based on 2 things (I think);</b></div>
<ol style="text-align: left;">
<li><b>The aggressiveness of your opponent and, </b></li>
<li><b>That people sometimes do not to check if they are pointed during a fight. They either assume they are pointed or are in a state of panic and forget that they can get out.</b><b> </b></li>
</ol>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<b>Having realized this the fit started to make sense to me. btw Imagine the possibilities of this if you could replace the point or scram on other fits as well and ad something extra instead of that.. hmm interesting. But I am starting to ramble.</b></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<b><br /></b></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<b>On with the blog. So after thinking about all this and seeing Pleniers latest vid I wanted to try this amazing ' pointless' ship. I wanted to see if I could make it work as well. It isn't that risky. It is not a very expensive experiment (only about 25mill for the whole fit with current prices in Dodixie) And if I don't look at the missing piont/scram, I really like the other stats of the fit. So I did take it out today with some succes. I went into Syndicate and found a fight. Here is the short story about what happened.</b></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<b><br /></b></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<b>I went to KTHT-0 without much incident. I had seen there was some activity there on the map. I used the method kil2 posted some days ago:<a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dFQ7lGxhsWU&feature=plcp">Finding fights</a> so see it works ;). Check it out if you have not. Local had about 5-6 people in it when I arrived. </b></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<b><br /></b></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<b>I warped to the planet near the station to check for any activity. There was an Oracle and a Rapier at the station which, together, is a bit to much to take on for me. I did try however but warped away after the first 2 volleys from the Oracle blew my shields away. I moved on to 1-NKVT. A Sabre followed me into the system a few moments later. </b></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<b><br /></b></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<b><i>Note:</i> A Sabre is the perfect opponent for this fit. It is likely shield tanked and will have close range weapons so I started looking for an opportunity to fight it. I want to have it at 20km away from me and keep that distance from it as long as I can to put as much dps on it as I can. But how do I get in that position? That is the problem.</b></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<b><br /></b></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<b>So, I warped from celestial to celestial to locate the Sabre using the scanner. He seemed to be warping around too (or cloaking idk) . Finally I scanned him down at the KTHT gate and I warped to it at 50km. 50k is enough distance for me to feel safe and keep my options open. At that time I am still expecting his friends to jump in. He was not alone, that is what I assumed.</b></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<b><br /></b></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<b>As I arrived he warped off. So now I did't really know what to do but just hang around the gate at 50-60k . Moments later he warped back on grid though, lands at 0m from the gate and starts burning for me right away.. which is perfect for me. I locked his ship and switched my camera to it to see what he was doing. I started shooting at 30km (way to soon.., hoping my lazors wouldn't burn out) and realized that I needed to run away :),ups.. I was still flying at an 90 degree angle from him at that moment. I clicked in space to fly in the same direction as he was when I realized that I forgot to turn on my MWD.. oh f*** he is going to catch me .. </b></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<b><br /></b></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<b>He does catch me .. but fortunately by the time he is on top of me his shields are gone and his ships armor is dropping fast.. I am scared then that he will orbit my ship and I won't be able to finish him off because of the poor tracking scorch provides. Hence I switch to Multi at the last moment. And then.. he pops.. </b></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<b><br /></b></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<b>Meanwhile his friends have jumped in but they are at a safe distance, about 95k away.. I am very scared at that moment (don't ask me why I just am) , my adrenaline is pumping and I warp out as soon as I can to get to safety. Which seems to take a very long time. So that fights ends well for me. - 1 Sabre.</b></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<b><br /></b></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<b>I am very satisfied with that kill. A 73mil kill with a 25mil ship. And.. this fit definitely worked. The Sabre pilot was very aggressive and that was his downfall. I don't think he ever realized that he could have gotten away and I am not sure that was his intention if he did know. </b></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<b>So I can conclude from my own experience today that you can successfully PvP without a point or scram. I mean, Kil2 showed it can be done and Pleniers showed it as well.. But if I can do it , a rookie space pvp cadet^^ , anyone can.</b></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<b><br /></b></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<b>Thanx Pleniers, definitly a very cool ship/fit. I hope I will have a lot more fun in it.</b><br />
<br />
<i>[EDIT] I am aware that in PvP-fleets ships often do not fit point/scrams. I am talking about solo-PvP only here. </i><b><br /></b></div>

<div style="color: #444444;">
<b>Now that I have finally entered The Syndicate I've been on a few scouting trips
into the region and I plan on doing that the coming week or so. </b></div>
<div style="color: #444444;">
<br /></div>
<div style="color: #444444;">
<b>My goal on my first trips have been to make tactical and insta -bookmarks around the gates , safespots and insta-warps from the station undocks. Not for all systems but for the systems that I think I will need to </b><b>regularly </b><b>fly thru when I am getting in and out of the region. Using them will make it possible for me to travel relatively safe if I want to. While i am doing this I am checking out the local inhabitants and what kind of traffic is moving thru the systems. </b></div>
<div style="color: #444444;">
<b><br /></b></div>
<div style="color: #444444;">
<b>Today I had planned to scout from EZA to 98Q-OS but I didn't get far. Three jumps in, in VV-VRC, I caught an interdictor camp on scan at the IIRH gate while there was a 10+ ship fleet sitting in the M2 gate. I had managed to evade them when I came in from M2 by running like a madman :-) while overheating my MWD (6000+m/s, hell yeah) . Thank CCP for the speed of my Crusader.My decision to not bring a T1 frig as a scout has already paid off. </b></div>

<b>With the gates blocked by interdictors and 20 in local I decided to call it a day ,dock up and wait for a better moment to continue. I don't want to risk my interceptor just yet. Patience is a virtue. The wise know when to quit and when to come back..</b></div>
<div style="color: #444444;">
<b><br /></b></div>
<div style="color: #444444;">
<b>I do sometimes feel tempted to take the crusader into battle though. Yesterday when I warped to a planet I landed 70km away from a Taranis. A perfect opportunity for a 1v1 and I hesitated to attack or not. I decided to fly away. That didn't feel to good I can tell you .. running away when I want to learn how to PvP? But still a wise choice in hindsight. I have no experience in flying a Crusader and the Taranis with its drones would prob have chewed me up even if I managed to keep range from it (which is highly questionable knowing my lack of successes so far). Besides scouting is my primary goal right now and I need to pick my fights well , not waste ships and get demoralized. Gotta stick to the plan.</b></div>

Almost all them in Derelik and Curse have been sold which leaves me with about 3 bil to waste on ships for PvP ; ) (I'll invest part of that in trade to keep some income).<br />
<br />
I'll use Verge as my base to roam into Syndicate. I can't wait to get started really. I have a crusader ready to go and explore and bookmark the region. New space, new systems to visit new people to shoot and bubbles to avoid ^^. <br />
<br />
<br />
I've been living in Derelik since I started in 2009, Verge will be a nice change.<br />

<span style="font-size: small;">I have decided to start flying cruisers to learn PvP from now on. </span></div>
<div style="color: black; font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
<span style="font-size: small;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="color: black; font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
<span style="font-size: small;">I have come to the conclusion that I have been flying to many types of ships so I need to narrow it down. My experience with that Harby tells me it would be good to get used to one type of ship and learn that one well before I progress to other ships. The Harby won't do though, it is too expensive. I need something cheap and simple to fly. </span></div>
<div style="color: black; font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
<span style="font-size: small;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="color: black; font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
<span style="font-size: small;">I also noticed that I have a hard time piloting , managing my ships modules and keeping situational awareness all at the same time. Usually I find myself fixated on managing my mods and so far I have been using ships with many active modules, active tanks and such because they are just very cool. I just love seeing my tank climb back during a fight. But it does take a bit of management of the mods and the cap and right now I haven't got the skills to do that and focus on flying as well. So its better if I keep my fits simple with as few active mods as possible. Then I can focus on piloting and learn that before I get into more complicated fits. </span></div>
<div style="color: black; font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
<span style="font-size: small;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="color: black; font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
<span style="font-size: small;">So this means ships with buffer tank, a prop mod. scram/point and guns and preferably nothing more.</span></div>
<div style="color: black; font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
<span style="font-size: small;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="color: black; font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
<span style="font-size: small;">A shield Rupture or Thorax will probably be my new ride. I have been testing both on sisi to see how they feel and perform. Both seem to work well but the Rupture is faster, more agile and has better range on its guns.The Thorax has more a little more hp and dps. Both seem fine but I'll stick to the Rupture for now.</span></div>
<div style="color: black; font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
<span style="font-size: small;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="color: black; font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
<span style="font-size: small;">I have also considered Assault ships because they seem fun and they seem to be able to engage the same spectrum of targets as the cruiser. But I don't want to get into frigs right now. And they are more expensive. </span></div>
<div style="color: black; font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
<span style="font-size: small;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="color: black; font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
<span style="font-size: small;">I can't wait to start. But first I am moving my operation to Verge vendor. </span></div>
<div style="color: black; font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
<span style="font-size: small;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="color: black; font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
<span style="font-size: small;"><br /></span></div>VR Highfivehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12001946014930244244noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4471164660300067489.post-71527273997979724922012-03-20T15:28:00.000-07:002012-03-25T11:30:46.487-07:00Evaluation (part 1)<div style="color: black; font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
<span style="font-size: small;">It has been three months since I have started on my new path in EVE. It is time for an evaluation of my progress so far. </span><br />
<span style="font-size: small;">The length time I have been doing this isn't the main reason for this evaluation, the main reason is that I am not having as much fun as I thought right now and I find myself feeling reluctant to go on my next roam. </span></div>
<div style="color: black; font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
<span style="font-size: small;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="color: black; font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
<span style="font-size: small;">Why is this? My goal of becoming a competent PvP pilot is still very inspiring to me. It is a great and interesting project. But my reluctance is coming from the feeling that I have that it is very likely that I will loose yet another ship in a fight in which I don't seem to stand a chance. I have been warned that it can be difficult to keep morale high in the face of continued losses with few wins or sense of progressing or accomplishment. </span></div>
<div style="color: black; font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
<span style="font-size: small;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="color: black; font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
<span style="font-size: small;">So, lets look at my KB so far.</span></div>
<div style="color: black; font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div style="color: black; font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
<span style="font-size: small;">Losses: 11 ships and 6 pods. With a total value of 415mil ISK (315mil if I deduct insurance).</span><br />
<span style="font-size: small;"><br /></span><br />
<span style="font-size: small;">Kills: 3 ships with a total value of 85mil ISK. Not show here.</span><br />
<span style="font-size: small;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="color: black; font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
<span style="font-size: small;">Nothing to be bragging about. More like: hmmm.... it might be better for my morale to avoid looking at my battleclinic killboard for a while. ^_^</span></div>
<div style="color: black; font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
<span style="font-size: small;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="color: black; font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
<span style="font-size: small;">Fortunately I can say that there has been no lack of fights, on almost every roam I did I got into some kind of skirmish or situation that was interesting. </span><br />
<span style="font-size: small;"><br /></span><br />
<span style="font-size: small;">Lets evaluate the quality of the fight I had though. </span></div>
<div style="color: black; font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
<span style="font-size: small;">Did I have 'goodfights' or were all horrible? </span></div>
<div style="color: black; font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
<span style="font-size: small;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="color: black; font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
<span style="font-size: small;">Well if I look back at the fights I have had of all the losses I have suffered so far, 6 of them got obliterated in gatecamps, 4 of them were lost because I screwed up in some embarrassing way during the fight, and I lost one ship during, what I experienced as, a GF (a Harby versus Drake 1v1, yeah always the Harby ;)</span> </div>
<div style="color: black; font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
<span style="font-size: small;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="color: black; font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
<span style="font-size: small;">I also remember having two really enjoyable and exciting fights that I could have won but didn't because my opponent escaped. </span><span style="font-size: small;">This includes the fight versus the Tempest on Saturday.</span></div>
<div style="color: black; font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
<span style="font-size: small;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="color: black; font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
<span style="font-size: small;">So its not all bad and horrible, statistically I have a 65% chance of dying horribly, <u>and</u> getting podded. :-) Which is fact is a better number that I expected. I felt it was more like 90%. So feelings can be deceiving.</span></div>VR Highfivehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12001946014930244244noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4471164660300067489.post-52231324407256462962012-03-17T16:06:00.000-07:002012-03-25T11:28:53.264-07:00Harbinger, old friend<div style="color: black; font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
<span style="font-size: small;"></span></div>
<div style="color: black; font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
<span style="font-size: small;">I returned to Doril today in my pod after a failed roam into Catch and Immensea. Lost my Sentinel in a gate camp that was, I must admit, quite cleverly set up. A Cynabal had chased me thru a few systems then sat at one gate in a 2 gate system while his friends set up the gate camp on the other gate. I was trapped like a little mouse. I never saw it coming until I jumped thru the gate and saw the camp and the bubble came up. Earlier today I lost a Hurricane in a very poor fight vs 2 battleships (Tempest and Hyperion) just outside my low-sec home station in Ishkad. All in all it had been a pretty crappy day for me as far as EVE pvp is concerned. </span></div>
<div style="color: black; font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
<span style="font-size: small;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="color: black; font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
<span style="font-size: small;">So, as I arrived in Doril on my way home I was considering if I would pick up my Harbinger that I had docked there and continue or if I would call it a day. I figured I would give it one more try but I promised myself to take my ship into low-sec Derelik instead of Curse. Low-sec just seamed so much more safe and predicable for me somehow at that moment. No F***ing frigs to deal with or bubbles, Inti's, Falcons or whatever people can throw at you in null.</span></div>
<div style="color: black; font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
<span style="font-size: small;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="color: black; font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
<span style="font-size: small;">So I dock up in Doril where I have the Harbinger. It is the last one from the 4 or 5 that I owned until recently. I have lost the rest of them for my solo PvP ambitions. </span></div>

<div style="color: black; font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
<span style="font-size: small;">Before I go on I need to say something about the Harbinger.(and the actual reason for this blog ^^) </span></div>
<div style="color: black; font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
<span style="font-size: small;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="color: black; font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
<span style="font-size: small;">.... <b>I love this ship</b> <3 ... </span></div>
<div style="color: black; font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
<span style="font-size: small;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="color: black; font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
<span style="font-size: small;">This is why </span></div>
<div style="color: black; font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
<span style="font-size: small;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="color: black; font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
<span style="font-size: small;">It is probably the ship I have most flown into battle, either it be in PvE or in PvP . I have logged more hours into that ship than any other besides maybe a Bestower or Sigil. This ship fits me like a glove. I know what its good at and I know its weaknesses. I know its truck like agility and its tough armor tank, the sounds of its ripping pulse lasers that do very respectable DPS and the lovely 20km range of scorch. I have been flying the Harbinger for years and up until I started solo PvPing I had never, ever lost 1. When I undock in a Harbinger I feel more confident then in any other ship . It feels like undocking with an old friend.</span></div>
<div style="color: black; font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
<span style="font-size: small;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="color: black; font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
<span style="font-size: small;">This afternoon started to realize that this matters to me. That this is actually an important factor when playing/fighting.The fiasco with the Cane this morning was largely due to me not being sure of what the Cane can do and can't do. I don't feel comfortable flying canes because I have hardly ever flown one. </span></div>
<div style="color: black; font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
<span style="font-size: small;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="color: black; font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
<span style="font-size: small;">I am more likely to misjudge situations in ships that I am less experienced in or that don't feel confident about. Unfortunate it is that the Harbinger , although being a wonderful ship for some types of fights, it is limited in what it can do. This basically means for me as a PvPer or at least someone who has the ambition of being competent at PvP that I'll need to invest more time in flying and learning other types of ship and weapon systems so that I get comfortable with them as well. </span><span style="font-size: small;">At least this is what I am considering. It makes perfect sense , but the next question is which ship/system would that be? I'll need to think about that. </span></div>
<div style="color: black; font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
<span style="font-size: small;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="color: black; font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
<span style="font-size: small;"><u><b>The combat part of this blog</b></u></span></div>
<div style="color: black; font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
<span style="font-size: small;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="color: black; font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
<span style="font-size: small;">So, alright, back to the situation at hand, I was in my Harbinger docked up in Doril I manage to change the fit around with the modules that I had in the hanger and I end up with a Harbi fit ,ala Kil2 (the one with the med. armor rep, 1600plate and med focused puls lasers). Pretty decent and certainly fit for battle. </span></div>
<div style="color: black; font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
<span style="font-size: small;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="color: black; font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
<span style="font-size: small;">I undock and warp to the regional gate to enter low sec Derelik. The roam has started. </span></div>
<div style="color: black; font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
<span style="font-size: small;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="color: black; font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
<span style="font-size: small;">Arriving at the gate (on a safe gate bm) I notice a Tempest on the gate at 0m. There aint that many people in system so I believe he is alone but that really doesn't matter to me as I am not gonna engage him. My plan was to roam low sec and I am sticking to it. I warp to gate and jump into Sendaya. </span></div>
<div style="color: black; font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
<span style="font-size: small;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="color: black; font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
<span style="font-size: small;">I see the Pest follow.. oke, this could get interesting.</span></div>
<div style="color: black; font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
<span style="font-size: small;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="color: black; font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
<span style="font-size: small;">Side note: I have never fought a Pest in my Harby so I am not sure how it would perform against one. 1 thing was for sure I was not going to aggro him on a gate. </span></div>
<div style="color: black; font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
<span style="font-size: small;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="color: black; font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
<span style="font-size: small;">I hold cloak and he de-cloaks immediately. So it is clear to me that he means business. He is 35km from me so well out of point range. That is good, that will give me some time to maneuver. I select a celestial that puts me on a course away from him and I burn from the gate. He locks and follows but doesn't aggro.</span></div>
<div style="color: black; font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
<span style="font-size: small;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="color: black; font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
<span style="font-size: small;"> I warp to the celestial. At this moment I am not sure what to do yet. Can I take a Pest alone? My experience from this morning in the cane suggests otherwise. To be sure I align to a gate ready to warp if I decide to. I would prefer to fight him on a gate with the sentry guns on my side. But will he follow if I warp a second time if he has followed me at all? </span></div>
<div style="color: black; font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
<span style="font-size: small;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="color: black; font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
<span style="font-size: small;">He pops up on scan so I know he is in pursuit. I wait for him to land on grid. And... he lands right on top of me about 7km away!! Which is a surprise considering I never warp to 0km. In a reflex I decide to stay and fight. From then on I am mentally in fight (brawl )mode and I start managing my ship systems: </span></div>
<ol style="color: black; font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
<li><span style="font-size: small;">lock him up and get everything on him, point, web, guns. </span></li>
<li><span style="font-size: small;">get under his guns! Get close using MWD, orbit as close as possible MWD off for smaller signature.</span></li>
<li><span style="font-size: small;">launch drones and manage tank/cap and overheat. I decided to let my drones kill his drones. </span></li>
</ol>
<div style="color: black; font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
<span style="font-size: small;"> Both our tanks start to diminish and I activate my overheated rep when I am at 75% armor. He is neuting me which puts pressure on me to manage my capbooster efficiently which I manage well enough. I cap out twice but not long enough to give me serious concerns. All my mods and weapons keep running. </span></div>
<div style="color: black; font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
<span style="font-size: small;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="color: black; font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
<span style="font-size: small;">In the meantime I notice that his shields are down and to my surprise his armor tank is dropping faster than mine! If it keeps going at this rate his BS will go down before my ship will. My serious concerns for my tank and cap start to be replaced by feeling of hope that I might come out of this engagement as the victor. </span></div>
<div style="color: black; font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
<span style="font-size: small;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="color: black; font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
<span style="font-size: small;">But.. it was not to be, he decided to bail and launches ecm drones. I notice that in time and lock em up and set my own drones on them. I manage to kill 1 before I get jammed and he takes that 20 sec window of opportunity to warp off. Ecm drones are very effective. Probably too effective to be any fun unless you are the person who is using them. But thats another topic.</span></div>
<div style="color: black; font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
<span style="font-size: small;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="color: black; font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
<span style="font-size: small;">After that is was GF in local and that is it.. That could have been a big satisfying reward for me after a pretty crappy PvP experience today. But Eve is like that. It can be unforgiving as hell and that is why I love it. It makes the victories all the sweeter. And I hope I have many of those in the future.</span></div>
<div style="color: black; font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
<span style="font-size: small;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="color: black; font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
<span style="font-size: small;">Still, on the bright side of this experience , I am glad to see I made someone flee who was in a bigger ship than me ,and in a fair fight. And of course..... it was in my good 'ol Harby.</span></div>
